Walking with the wounded
All the money that is raised will go to the Walking With The Wounded charity.
Walking With The Wounded is a UK based charity that funds both the re-training and re-education of wounded servicemen and women with the aim of helping them find long term employment after they have left the Armed Forces. http://walkingwiththewounded.org.uk/
We have also been in touch with Selina Smith who is part of the fundraising team at Walking With the Wounded and she has recently made a page in the latest news on the Walking With the Wounded page about our money raised. The link is; http://walkingwiththewounded.org.uk/blog/2013/06/17/8198/
Life serving in afghanistan as a soldier
I have completed tours in Afghanistan, Iraq, Bosnia and Northern Ireland. Each brought their own challenges but the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan has been, I think, unique. What is not often seen by the public is the
extremely austere conditions in which many soldiers live while on active service, and the tremendous pressure they endure day-in, day-out, in almost constant presence of the enemy, for months on end. I constantly reflect on how amazing, and inspiring, the young men and women I served alongside were, and especially the strength shown by those injured - not just during the moment, but when facing the long term consequences too. Charities such as Walking with the Wounded are doing amazing work to help those who have made such huge sacrifices in service of their country; they deserve all the help a grateful nation can muster.
